The region of Puglia-Italy´s boot- is dotted with coastal towns perched above rock, hillside towns surrounded by orchard grooves and seaside beach towns.

I have rounded up a list of four places of where to stay in Puglia that extend from the coast of  Polignano a Mare to Ostuni including fortified farmhouses-known as masseria-resortish type and a studio set in the middle of a Puglian small town where you can experience the real Italy.

1.Polignano a Mare studio: living local

Your vacation to Puglia can’t get more authentic than this. We stayed in this studio in Polignano a Mare, seaside town that emerges from rocky limestone cliffs, for 2 nights and loved the experience.

The one bedroom apartments is located in the heart of town close to restaurant and bars, yet tucked away from the noise of the street. The space is small yet it was carefully designed for quality and comfort.

The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. When you are travelling for an extended time period, as was our case, I prefer to stay in apartment-like settings. This gives you the flexibility to prepare your own meals and live like the locals. The fact that you check out the local groceries and live next to a local makes the experience more genuine.

This might not be your cup of tea if you want an all inclusive option and get pampered. I know my parents prefer this option but they are in their 60s.  Other options below might suit you better.

2.Borgo Egnazia:5 star resortish stay

Heading  23 miles south of Polignano a Mare  near to Fasano is Borgo Egnazia. Set on 40 acres or ground, resort-like setting, this family friendly chic resort is the best option if you are big on amenities yet value unique travel experiences . This resort has two beaches, golf course, beach club, spa, gym, yoga studio and even a hair dresser.  The complex is well secured and built like a villa.

Arranged like a traditional village, the white-on-cream buildings are tastefully decorated and embodies the true essence of Puglia. You can spend your entire time in Puglia at this place where time transcends. It’s a good all in one stop splurge.

3.Masseria Cimino: 18th century Masseria

Also close to the town of Fasano is the setting of a traditional 18th century Masseria (farmhouse) nestled between centuries-old-olive trees. Set in a rural location, this quaint 15 room maison makes you feel like you’re staying at your nonna´s that has a keen eye for details and cooks amazing orecchiette.

As a guest, your room rate includes breakfast and a four course dinner meals. This upscale property has a laid-back-country feel so don´t expects 5 star hotels amenities. By the way, I forgot to mention that at the properties backyard  is the San Domenico Golf Course for all those golf aficionados.

For the relaxing crowd, you can  lounge on the pool or walk for 10 minutes to check out the beach. For the history buffs, the archeological site of Egnazia is nearby. For the explorers that want to venture further, the iconic Puglian postcard card  town of Alberobello is 16 km away.

4.Masseria Moroseta: Avant-garde Masseria

Heading south of Fasano for 17 miles you reach this amazing Masseria. Located 2 miles from  the whitewashed town of Ostuni, Masseria Moroseta stands on a ridge with views to the ocean and to oil grooves set in their backyard. This relaxing bed-and-breakfast nailed the look as it was going after-a modern version of a Puglian farmhouse. It was meticulously designed so that when the sun hits in different times during the day it reflects off the wall creating amazing colors.

Besides from its innovative architecture, this enclave produces a small batch of organic olive oil, farm raised eggs and gets its share of the best burrata cheese in the area. After dipping into the pool, steam bath and sauna, you can have a farm to table breakfast. Plus they are now offering yoga retreats.

It’s 6 miles away from one of the best beaches in the area and if you want to explore town you can get lost in the alleys of Ostuni .

This is an ideal place to take your partner on that surprise getaway or might as well rent the 6 rooms and visit with friends. This is my fav of the list.
